The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that authorizes variances, in specific cases, from the terms of the Alamance County Unified Development Ordinance when a hardship would result from carrying out the strict letter of the regulations. The Board of Adjustment also hears and decides appeals from administrative decisions made by county Planning staff or other advisory boards. G.S. 153A-340 (ff) and Article 21 of Chapter 143. Established May 4, 1987.

Requirements for Membership: Must reside within Alamance County. Terms may be for a period of two or three years upon initial appointment. Board members will need to be mindful of potential conflicts of interest in specific cases and the need to recuse themselves when circumstances require
