The Alamance County Human Services Board is an appointed board to the public health department, the veterans’ services department, and the Family Justice Center. It is responsible for setting service fees based on the director’s recommendations and within the limits of the law. The board ensures compliance with state and federal program requirements and has the authority to conduct audits and reviews of human services programs. It recommends the creation of new local programs, advises local officials through the county manager, and carries out public relations and advocacy activities. The board may also serve as a coordinator or agent of the state when required by law. In addition, it helps plan and recommend the consolidated human services budget and develops procedures for resolving disputes involving human services contractors, clients, and public advocates, following state and federal guidelines when applicable. The board also carries out all powers and duties of the local board of health.  This includes adopting local health regulations, protecting public health, participating in enforcement appeals of local regulations, and performing regulatory health functions required by state law.
